Discussion Regarding Future NBS Governor Still Pending

Bratislava, December 8 (TASR) - The Government discussions vis-a-vis the filling of the Slovak central bank NBS Governor post and the posts of the Slovak Land Fund (SPF) top representatives are currently underway, TASR learned from Premier Robert Fico's spokesperson Silvia Glendova on Tuesday.
No agreement has been reached yet. "Discussions are still pending," said Glendova, adding that Fico left the Party of European Socialists (PES) Congress in Prague prematurely in order to take part in the talks. As a result, Fico was not even present at Tuesday's court hearing regarding his lawsuit against the Slovak daily SME.
A week ago, all thirteen SPF's top representatives were dismissed in the wake of scandalous land transfer to restituents in Presovo region. Former general director and his deputy are to be replaced by new officials, appointed by the Government. The remaining officials - eleven SPF's Council members - will be chosen by the Parliament.
The term of incumbent NBS Governor Ivan Sramko expires this year and the rules forbid him from seeking candidacy again. However, a recent legislative change on NBS Act lifted this ban, opening the way for Sramko to apply for the post once more if supported by the Government. Sramko declined to offer any comments, saying the issue will be resolved in December.
