Bratislava, June 13 (TASR) - After the June 12 general election Slovak lawmakers will, under the country's constitution, convene at the request of President Ivan Gasparovic within 30 days of the announcement of official electoral results for a swearing-in ceremony.
Lawmakers are then expected to vote in a new chairman of parliament - who will formally take over from the incumbent Pavol Paska - and deputy chairmen by secret ballot.
At their first meeting the legislature will set up the legally-prescribed parliamentary committees, and if necessary, establish others.
After the first parliamentary meeting, Government will hand in its resignation to president while performing its official duties until a new Cabinet has been appointed. The newly-appointed Government must next pass a confidence motion in the new parliament to be allowed to assume office.
Saturday's election was won by Smer-SD gaining 34.79 percent voter support followed by SDKU-DS on 15.42 percent and SaS with 12.42 percent. Other parties which have made it into Parliament are Christian Democrats (KDH, 8.52 percent), Most-Hid (8.12 percent) and SNS (5.07 percent).
Translated into parliamentary seats, Smer-SD will have 62 lawmakers, SDKU-DS 28, SaS 22, KDH15, Most-Hid 14, and SNS 9.
To retain power a government needs at least support from 76 legislators.
