Brussels, December 8 (TASR) - A gas crisis like that of early 2009 isn't expected to be repeated this coming winter, as Ukraine has settled the issue of payments for gas supplies for several months ahead, Ukraine's Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Poroshenko said following a meeting with his Slovak counterpart Miroslav Lajcak in Brussels on Tuesday.
Lajcak noted that ensuring problem-free gas transport, as well as the Ukrainian presidential election due in January, will have a major contribution in terms of what kind of light the country will be viewed by Europe.
Poroshenko and Lajcak met on the sidelines of sessions of the EU's General Affairs Council (GAC) and Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) that bring together foreign affairs ministers of EU-member countries. The special Lajcak-Poroshenko meeting was initiated by Poroshenko.
The Slovak official reiterated that Slovakia endorses Ukraine's pro-European orientation. "We want to be among those EU members that speak on Ukraine's behalf," said Lajcak.
