Bratislava, November 16 (TASR) - Christian Democrats (KDH) and representatives of the Slovak Trade and Industry Chamber (SOPK) said after a meeting on Monday that they believe that the effects of the global economic crisis on Slovakia can be ameliorated via a change in the deduction system.
Slovakia lags behind only Poland in the height of the so-called contributory fees paid by employers on plus-40 percent of the salary, and the Opposition leaders describe this as a major disincentive to hiring staff.
As well, according to KDH chairman Jan Figel a healthy legal environment and elimination of corruption and clientelism would also help the country in its struggle against the crisis.
SOPK head Peter Mihok described the crisis as a crisis of over-production, and said he agrees with KDH that it is a crisis of values that represents a cause of the economic crisis. "We have moved into a virtual world, with virtual products replacing real ones," said Mihok.
