Meseznikov: No Doubt that Radicova Will Become New Premier

Bratislava, June 13 (TASR) - SDKU-DS election leader Iveta Radicova will without any doubt become the new Slovak prime minister following Saturday's election, political analyst Grigorij Meseznikov told TASR on Sunday.
The fact that Radicova has been SDKU's election leader, while former prime minister (1998-2006) Mikulas Dzurinda has retained his post of party chairman (he decided not to run in the election following a scandal involving SDKU funding), won't prevent Radicova from becoming the chief of the future government, said Meseznikov citing information from behind the party scenes.
Even though President Ivan Gasparovic commissioned Smer-SD head Robert Fico to form up a government as Smer won the election with 35 percent of the vote, the current premier is lacking the necessary coalition potential to achieve a parliamentary majority, noted the analyst.
"If Fico doesn't want to make a fool of himself, he'll return the commissioning to the president within one or two days as the negotiations (with rightist parties SDKU-DS, SaS, KDH and Most-Hid) haven't been launched," said Meseznikov, adding that it will be the Right's turn then.
