Bratislava, June 10 (TASR) - People affected by the extensive floods in recent weeks will receive approximately €4 million from political parties, according to the amendment on the Act on Parliamentary Elections and the Act on Political Parties and Movements passed by Parliament at its extraordinary session on Thursday.
Parties that gain more than 3-percent support in the elections will receive 0.75 percent of the average nominal salary for every vote cast in their favour, 25 percent less than under the current system.
The amendments were passed by 112 out of 114 present MPs, with only independent MPs Pavol Minarik and Frantisek Miklosko (both formerly with the Christian Democratic Movement/KDH) voting against.
According to estimates, the floods in late May/early June that hit Slovakia have caused damages amounting to €267.8 million, with Kosice region affected worst. Property damages suffered by people, villages and self-governing regions amount to €176.5 million, whilst state property has seen destruction equating as much as €91.3 million.
All estimates are only preliminary, as some flooded regions are still inaccessible.
