Bratislava, June 10 (TASR) - Uninsured farmers affected by the recent floods will be eligible only for half the level of compensation of those with insurance, according to the new Act on Providing Subsidies to Compensate for Losses Caused by Adverse Meteorological Incidents passed by Parliament on Thursday.
Only farmers who have suffered flood damage exceeding €2,000 will receive compensation from the state, while the losses of silviculturalists will have to be even higher, more than €5,000, for them to be eligible for compensation. Agricultural entities falling into four groups will be compensated - primary producers, fish breeders, silviculturalists and wardens of tree nurseries. All of those eligible have to apply for compensation to the Agricultural Payment Agency.
Lawmakers also passed an amendment to the so-called geology law, which is designed to boost the powers of the Environment Ministry and to allow supervising authorities in the spheres of geology and engineering to act more quickly during natural disasters.
