Bratislava, June 10 (TASR) - Opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) vice-chairman Daniel Lipsic said in a parliamentary debate on Thursday that he has specific proof attesting to the illicit funding of the leading coalition Smer-SD party, TASR learnt on the same day.
"I received an audio recording yesterday (Wednesday) that confirms Smer's illegal financing," said Lipsic. He added that he e-mailed the recording to the Prosecutor-General's Office on Thursday to supplement a criminal complaint that KDH filed with the Office over Smer's funding on May 20.
The issue of Smer's funding was brought to light by businessman and former Smer-SD MP Bohumil Hanzel. He claimed that he had seen a notarised agreement between Smer and five of the party's sponsors that concerned specific places on Smer's election slate in 2002 (Smer's first campaign).
Hanzel said that he arranged meetings in 2000-02 between Fico and Smer's sponsors, who sank tens of millions of crowns into the party. In addition, Hanzel claimed that he can provide proof that in late 1999 he and Fico agreed to seek out influential people willing to bankroll the party.
"We've been working on information that appeared in the media this week and that concerns crimes such as tax evasion, indirect corruption, unjustified benefiting, bribery and possibly others," said KDH leader Jan Figel when filing the complaint back in May.
