SkyToll and Q-Free Entangled in Legal Battlle

Bratislava, June 8 (TASR) - A dispute between electronic road-toll system provider SkyToll and Q-free, one of the contractors involved in the project, will end up in court, as Bratislava District Court has registered a damage compensation lawsuit filed between the two companies.

The lawsuit was filed on May 11, 2010. "The court is taking initial steps and procedures in the matter," Bratislava District Court spokesman Pavol Adamciak told TASR. He also added that the court is not authorised to provide details on the lawsuit to journalists, as this can be done only by the litigants. The lawsuit is expected to delve into deals and information about negotiations on changing the supplier-customer contract concluded between the two companies.

The supplier of electronic road-toll's central system, the Nordic company Q-Free, reported on May 28 that it held negotiations with SkyToll regarding the changes in the contract the companies signed in January 2009.

Concerns about having the contractor withdrawing from the project were voiced also by representatives of the Slovak Union of Hauliers UNAS. "If Q-Free really won't proceed with its contractual obligations, the entire system (of electronic road-toll collection) can collapse ... thus, threatening the whole project," said UNAS in its statement published in late May. According to UNAS, Q-Free has decided to end the co-operation with the toll system provider, as the toll collection doesn't work and contains too many imperfections.

The road-toll system has two contractors - Q-Free and Siemens. "According to our information, both companies blame each other over who is responsible for the system errors," said UNAS.
