Election 2010: Polling Not Endangered in Any Flooded Village

Bratislava, June 8 (TASR) - Nowhere in the villages hit by the recent floods is the situation so bad that it could inhibit the parliamentary elections from taking place on June 12, the Central Election Commission (UVK) records clerk Livia Skultetyova told TASR on Tuesday.

"So far, we have no information about elections not taking place," she said, adding that all involved are currently doing their utmost to have everything ready for Saturday.

"There are various problems, everything has to be put in order. In one case, the venue of the polling station had to be changed, some are still waiting to dry out," she explained, adding that in case of the re-location of the polling stations, local authorities have to inform the citizens by all available means. She said everything should be under control by Saturday, including the election materials (ballots, lists and other), which were not affected by the floods.

Slovak parliamentary elections will take place on June 12. Altogether 18 parties run in the election, which will be supervised by 5,929 local election commissions and 50 district election commissions, along with UVK.

Preliminary results of the election – designed to take place every four years – will be published at the Slovak Statistic Office webpage (www.statistics.sk) after the polling stations will close at 10 p.m. on Saturday. The official results will be presented by UVK on Sunday, June 13.
