Paska: Parliament to Discuss Bill on Party Funding on Thursday

Poprad, June 8 (TASR) - Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paska (Smer-SD) said on Tuesday that he expects the Government at its meeting on Wednesday to draw up proposals for legislative changes to facilitate aid to flood-hit areas, with Parliament then holding an extraordinary session on Thursday to discuss the bill via a fast-tracked procedure.

"The discussion will be on the package of money that is allocated from the (state) budget for funding political parties, to redeploy (part of) it to reconstructing infrastructure after the floods," said Paska.

As for specifics, the bill should, among other things, reduce administrative work to make the distribution of public money for affected people transparent and more flexible, including the handing-out of money in cash.

The first package of financial aid should be distributed as early as this week. "We need to distinguish; one level is the aid from the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family ministry - €800 per capita, and the second contribution is the one mentioned by (Interior Minister Robert) Kalinak, which is between €300-3,000," said Paska, adding that specific damage will be calculated as late as after Saturday's election, and will therefore have to be dealt with by the Finance Ministry in the next electoral term.
