Danube River Culminating at 833 centimetres in Bratislava

Bratislava, June 5 (TASR) - The Danube River in Bratislava's neighbourhood of Devin reached its highest point at over 800 centimetres on Saturday and the river was culminating, TASR was told by Peter Minarik from Bratislava's branch of Slovak Water Management Company on Saturday.

A mobile barrier that was erected under the Devin castle will definitely remain in place until Sunday, when it will probably be removed, said Minarik.

As far as the lower section of Danube is concerned, Minarik informed TASR that mobile barriers have been also installed in the town of Sturovo (Nitra region). "The difference in culmination between Bratislava and Sturovo could be up to 24 hours, it all depends on the tributaries," he concluded.

According to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU), the level of Danube reached 833 centimetres in Bratislava and 789 centimetres in the borough of Devin on Saturday at 6 p.m., both stations are in second-degree flood alert.

Meanwhile, the third-degree flood alert is still in place on the Morava River in Kopcany, Moravsky Svaty Jan (Trnava region) and Zahorska Ves (Bratislava region).

The flood situation in Presov region is stabilised, with all endangered areas registering drops in water levels. "The worst situation remains in Kendice, where two streets are still under water," said Jozef Corba from Presov crisis management team. Apart from this village, the situation in Presov region is calm, and municipalities are currently surveying the damage caused by the floods.
