Radicova: Smer Taking 'After Us, the Deluge' Approach to Public Finances

Bratislava, June 4 (TASR) – The governing Smer-SD party has taken an "after us, the deluge" approach, in particular when it comes to public finances and the state budget, opposition SDKU-DS election leader Iveta Radicova told journalists on Friday.
"Nobody knows what condition our public finance are in. None of us knows what the real tax incomes are. We don't know what the tax prognosis is like, and we don't know how the state's closing account looks. We don't know the shape in which the next government will take this country over," said Radicova.
According to her, the current floods across the country have shown that "the treasury and the state budget are empty, and that the premier's reserve fund has been used up to cover sports fields and other marketing events", and that in critical situations, such as floods, Slovakia has to cry for help from outside.
Radicova asked what sort of resolution Slovak citizens can actually expect from the extraordinary Government session on Saturday (June 5), at which ministers will deal with the issue of the floods. "What kind of decision can they possibly take? Asking Brussels for help? Or taking a loan?"
