Bratislava, June 4 (TASR) - The Government will allocate €25 million to areas affected by the current floods, Prime Minister Robert Fico announced at an extraordinary press conference late on Friday afternoon.
According to Fico, money from various resources will be immediately available, with specific allocations as early as next week set to be decided on at the extraordinary Government session on Saturday.
The premier also reported that Slovakia will ask for resources from the European Union Solidarity Fund, which may cover up to 11 percent of the total damage. This option will be negotiated in Brussels by representatives of the Interior Ministry on Monday. The last time that Slovakia used resources from the EU Solidarity Fund was after strong winds hit the High Tatra mountains in November 2004.
Fico also said that the state still has enough human resources and equipment to tackle the effects of the heavy floods. He announced that he will personally visit the most severely hit areas in eastern Slovakia as early as the same evening.
