Court Throws Out Motions of Unsuccessful Applicants to Run Emergency Units

Bratislava, June 3 (TASR) - The Bratislava Regional Court threw out eight motions of failed applicants for a licence to run medical emergency units at state hospitals who were trying to annul the selection of the Health Ministry in round one of the related tenders four years ago.
The court ruled that the ministry's decisions were in line with the law.
Plaintiffs will appeal the judgement before the Supreme Court, as the criteria used in the €330-million tender competition were in violation of the law under which there can only be three evaluation criteria as opposed to six chosen by the ministry, according to their lawyer Marek Benedik.
"We have over many months in litigation failed to learn why we were less successful than those now operating medical emergency units," said Jan Hencel, chairman of the Association of Medical Emergency Providers.
Pleased with the judgement, Health Minister Richard Rasi said that it proved that the related public procurement process was in line with the law.
The tendering redistributed licences from private emergency service providers to the state-owned ones based in Bratislava and Kosice.
