Dzurinda: Fico's Speech at Smer's Session Was Pure Propaganda

Bratislava, December 7 (TASR) - The speech delivered by Prime Minister and chairman of the strongest coalition party Smer-SD at a ceremonial convention to mark Smer's 10th anniversary on Sunday was pure propaganda aimed at covering up the reality that the current Government is devastating Slovakia, said SDKU-DS chairman Mikulas Dzurinda on Monday.

"The populism of Mr. Robert Fico, corruption, clientelism, the inability to adopt sometimes tough but inevitable measures, is devastating Slovakia economically, socially, as well as morally," said Dzurinda at a press conference, pointing to similarities between Smer's celebrations and congresses organised by the Communist Party in the former Czechoslovakia.

According to Dzurinda, Fico is covering up the fact that "the ten years of the Smer-SD political party under his management has been a period of hard-core populism". "Instead of taking an honest attitude to reality and dealing with his promises and commitments recorded in the pre-election as well as the Government Manifesto, he's resorted to unbelievable propaganda," said Dzurinda in reference to Fico's speech.

Dzurinda also stated figures that he claimed point to the economic devastation caused by Fico. "The average four-member family owes the state €3,319.39," he said, adding that the Government is unable to adopt a single measure that would help the unemployed.

Turning to clientelism and corruption, Dzurinda added that these two phenomena have never flourished as much as they do now, and referred to international surveys.
