RUZ: State Will Collect Lower Tax Revenues Due to Crisis

Bratislava, May 31 (TASR) - According to secretary of the Republican Union of Employers (RUZ) Martin Hostak, Slovakia will collect lower tax revenues in 2009 than assumed, he told TASR following the tripartite (labour, government and business) session in Bratislava on Monday.

"The prognoses of the economists also point to this. It's a natural consequence of the global financial crisis ... this is why the focus should be laid on intense conserving of public finances," said Hostak. He thinks ill-thought measures in the area of social policies could cause a situation similar to Greece, which recently faced financial collapse.

Vice-president of the Slovak Federation of Employers' Associations (AZZZ) Milan Chupek thinks the lower amount of tax revenues is connected to the higher number of employees on minimum wage. He explained that it's a two-pronged problem. "On the one hand, the state budget has to be saved, but filled (with revenues) too. But if 50 percent of the employers only pay taxes from the minimum wage, it's difficult."

He thinks that the high employment levies are a common problem for entrepreneurs. "I'm convinced that the deduction burden for the entrepreneurs should be lower. This should be done for our entrepreneurs," said Chupek, stating that has to in an intensive manner in order to make a substantial impact in the entrepreneurial environment.
