Number of Unemployed in Bratislava Region Almost Doubled in 2009

Bratislava, May 31 (TASR) - The total number of job seekers in Bratislava region grew by 7,433 year-on-year to 15,853 to December 31, 2009, according to the Slovak Statistics Office.
The region's share of overall unemployment in Slovakia stood at 4.2 percent. Around 46.3 percent of the jobless were women.
The overall unemployment rate in the region stood at 4.36 percent, up by 2.09 percentage points in annual terms.
A steep increase was recorded in the number of unemployed graduates, up from 701 at the end of 2008 to 1,500 in late 2009.
According to the stats office, the crisis resulted in a fall in the number of vacancies. There were 8,644 vacancies in the region at the end of 2009, 3,702 fewer than a year before.
