Bratislava, May 31 (TASR) - Non-parliamentary party Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) doesn't want to be a party for just one electoral term, but a standard political force and a member of the European Liberal-Democratic and Reform Party (ELDR), said SaS chairman Richard Sulik at a press conference on Monday.
"Our efforts for ELDR membership have a long-term character and we've been working on this systematically. This should highlight our efforts to be a party that wants to introduce expert solutions in Slovakia's rightist spectrum over the long term," said Sulik.
ELDR chairman Annemie Neyts, who also took part in the press conference, said that she views SaS as the most promising liberal party being formed in Slovakia. She expressed her support for the Slovak novice in the general election on June 12 and its efforts to join the ELDR.
"The ELDR executive committee is to deal with our application on June 17. It should give a positive recommendation to the congress, which will meet in mid-October in Helsinki and should accept SaS as a fully-fledged member," said SaS member Martin Chren.
"We're planning to pursue our politics for many, many years. We hope that we can seize this liberal part of the political spectrum, which isn't occupied in Slovakia at present," said Chren, adding that there is no other relevant liberal party in Slovakia at the moment.
