President Signs Citizenship Amendment Into Law

Bratislava, May 31 (TASR) - President Ivan Gasparovic on Monday signed an amendment to the State Citizenship Act that was approved by the Slovak Parliament last week, Margita Ivanickova of the press department of the President's Office told TASR on Monday.

The amendment was passed in response to Hungary's approval of a piece of legislation whereby conditions for acquiring Hungarian citizenship were eased significantly.

In line with the Slovak counter-legislation, Slovak citizens who apply for the citizenship of another country will automatically lose their Slovak one.
