Unemployment Slightly Fell in October, Reaching 12.4 Percent

Bratislava, November 19 (TASR) - The unemployment rate in Slovakia fell in October by 0.05 percentage points month-on-month, reaching 12.4 percent, informed the Labour, Social Affairs and Family Office (UPSVaR) on Thursday.

"The market has stabilised in the last three months," said UPSVaR director Jan Sihelsky, explaining that job-creation measures are starting to offset the impact of the ongoing economic crisis.

However, year-on-year the unemployment rate in October rose by 4.89 percentage points.

Based on the number of active job-seekers, the unemployment rate reached 13.92 percent - growing by 0.03 percentage points m-o-m and by 5.17 points y-o-y.

The number of job applicants was 368,982 in the given months, rising by 961 people m-o-m and 140,788 y-o-y.

The number of long-term unemployed people rose in October by 3,790 people to about 130,000. "They are people who have been registered for more than 12 months," specified Sihelsky.

According to Sihelsky, both unemployment rates should reach a similar level in November, or there may be a slight growth.
