INEKO: SDKU Has Best Election Programme in Healthcare, HZDS Worst

Bratislava, May 28 (TASR) - Healthcare experts at the Institute for Economic and Social Reforms (INEKO) have worked out an assessment report concerning how contributive the election programmes of selected parties are in terms of the health sector.

The best marks were given to the opposition SDKU-DS party's programme, way ahead of those presented by other opposition parties the Christian Democrats (KDH) and the extra-parliamentary Freedom and Solidarity (SaS). This trio on the Right was followed by two rightist and ethnic-Hungarian parties, SMK and Most-Hid, while all three currently ruling parties ended up with the lowest rankings - the Slovak National Party (SNS), the leftist Smer-SD, and in bottom place, LS-HZDS, according to the 23 experts who decided on the final rankings.

In total, 115 measures in all election programmes were covered, with the experts taking into consideration various criteria, such as quality, contribution, importance, tangibility and feasibility.

Common features seen in all party programmes were vagueness and caution, and to an even greater extent than in their 2006 election programmes. The only exception was SaS, which is a newcomer and whose ideas can't be compared to the past. In addition, SaS has come up with the most in-depth and at the same time most controversial election programme. [Most-Hid is also a newcomer, but its representatives broke away from SMK, meaning that its election programme could be compared. - ed. note]

"On the other hand, some positive measures have been presented as well," said INEKO analyst Dusan Zachar, mentioning those related to cash-flow in the healthcare sector, quality and standards in treatment.
