SDKU: New Smer Billboards Offend Our Voters

Bratislava, May 28 (TASR) - The new billboard campaign of the governing Smer-SD party insults SDKU-DS voters, said SDKU election leader Iveta Radicova at a press conference in Bratislava on Friday.
Radicova said this in reaction to Smer billboards that have appeared this week, with slogans such as: "They robbed the disabled, they'll do it again," "They stopped the (construction of) motorways, they'll do it again," and "They sold off Slovakia, they'll do it again," Each billboard includes the appeal "Stop a SDKU-KDH-SMK coalition!".
According to Radicova, this is a dangerous game that doesn't offer any solutions for Slovakia. "I must be dreaming. I hoped we'd never sink so low as to copy the campaign in the Czech Republic," she said, claiming that Smer's billboards made her think of the Czech campaign as soon as she first saw them.
"We've been trying to bring up important issues in order to resolve problems that have to be resolved. After four years of great arrogance, we're convinced that it's time to start talking like normal people," she said. At the same time, Radicova said that SDKU won't choose the same path and won't insult the voters of other parties. "We honour them. It's not about not being able to pursue such a campaign too. We could," she stated, giving as an example the slogan: "He gave power to Meciar and Slota, he'll do it again! Change is in your hands, come and vote.", a reference to Prime Minister Robert Fico's coalition partners LS-HZDS chair Vladimir Meciar and Slovak National Party (SNS) leader Jan Slota.
Such billboards won't appear in Slovakia, however, as SDKU doesn't want to continue with this style of campaign, which doesn't bring anything, said Radicova.
