Dozens of People Vote in Czech Election at Czech Embassy in Bratislava

Bratislava, May 28 (TASR) - Dozens of people on Friday visited the polling station at the Czech embassy in Bratislava to cast their votes in the Czech parliamentary elections.

Several people were already waiting outside the embassy at 2 p.m. when special polling station No. 31 opened its doors. A total of 418 voters in Slovakia were registered on the list of eligible voters, while the electoral commission also expects other Czech citizens with voter ID cards to attend.

One of the first voters to appear at the polling station was Bohumir Brettschneider, who has been living in Slovakia since 1977. He wasn't able to vote in the last election due to administrative obstacles. He expressed his hope that the political situation in the Czech Republic will stabilise after the election, as he is unhappy about the current quarrels on the Czech political scene. Brettschneider further noted that he found it hard to take the division of Czechoslovakia in 1993, which he still thinks was unnecessary.

Four years ago, the Czech embassy listed 520 eligible voters, but only 298 came to vote in the end. "We expect the turnout to be higher than in Yemen, for example, as many Czech citizens currently work, live and occur in Slovakia," said Czech ambassador in Slovakia Jakub Kafrik.

The polling station is due to stay open until 10 p.m. on Friday, opening again between 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday.
