Government Suspends Discussion on Dual Citizenship
Tuesday 25 May 2010 Zoom in | Print page
Bratislava, May 25 (TASR) - The extraordinary Government session dealing with an amendment to the State Citizenship Act was interrupted on Tuesday morning because some of the members of the Government wanted to leave in order to attend an extraordinary parliamentary session.
The Government will continue its discussion of the amendment and the related fast-tracked legislative procedure if the Hungarian Parliament approves the controversial bill on dual citizenship on Wednesday.
The Slovak amendment on dual citizenship should include a provision stating that Slovak citizens who voluntarily ask for citizenship of another state will lose their Slovak citizenship, and, automatically, their right to hold a public post, which in Slovakia is preconditioned by Slovak citizenship.
The Government also approved a resolution concerning the amendment debated by the Hungarian Parliament.
