Government Approves Plan Concerning International Development Aid

Bratislava, May 25 (TASR) - The Government on Tuesday approved Slovakia's plan for development aid in 2010-12 as drafted by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) National Programme for 2010, Slovakia has agreed to provide €6.865 million in development aid to Afghanistan, Kenya and Serbia, and finance development projects in Ethiopia, Sudan, Vietnam, countries in the Western Balkans and states that belong to the European Union's Eastern Partnership.

Some of the total ODA, projected at €10.571 million next year and at €13.092 million in 2012, will also contribute to international aid for the island of Haiti, which was devastated by an earthquake last year.

A total of €1 million this year should go to deal with the effects of global climate change in accordance with Slovakia's pledge at the EU Council on Climate Change in Copenhagen in December 2009, at which the EU agreed to contribute a total of €2.4 billion between 2010-12 including €9 million from Slovakia.
