Radicova Calls on Fico to Attend Round-table Discussion on Hot Issues

Bratislava, May 24 (TASR) - The main opposition SDKU-DS party has called on Prime Minister Robert Fico to attend a round-table discussion to deal with key problems in Slovakia, SDKU election leader Iveta Radicova said at a press conference on Monday.

"The time has come to stop to cover the real problems of the country, and openly exchange opinions, stances and solutions, so that the public would (be able to) decide responsibly," said Radicova, describing improvements to the quality of life, economic revival and a law-based state as the most important issues.

Radicova is convinced that the public first of all needs economic recovery, a halt to the increasing public debt, and measures to tackle unemployment and create new jobs. "Over the past four years an urgent need has also arisen to deal with clientelism, corruption and nepotism, the unsatisfactory level of democracy and ethnic tensions," she said. "Courts should make rulings fairly, impartially and quickly," she added.

SDKU anti-crisis team leader Eugen Jurzyca proposed the setting-up of boards of budget experts who would be isolated from political pressure. "They would decide on the level of the deficit, and how big a surplus should be in place in good times to keep public finances sustainable in the long run," he said.
