Bratislava, May 23 (TASR) - Two out of three Slovak citizens are convinced that the country's economic situation has worsened over the past 12 months, although the number of pessimists has fallen by 17 percentage points on the year, according to the latest Consumer Barometer issued by the Slovak Stats Office that the Government is due to examine at its next session on Wednesday, May 26.
Conversely, the current economic situation was assessed positively by less than 10 percent of the respondents. Many consumers in Slovakia remain pessimistic when it comes to their expectations for the coming months - with around 40 percent expecting the situation to worsen. Only slightly more than 20 percent said that they were optimistic about the near future.
The survey also focused on how people perceive developments in consumer prices. As many as 62 percent of those asked said that prices have gone up over the past year, which represents a drop of 8 percentage points year-on-year. Among the other findings of the survey is that 14 percent of consumers expect more dynamic price hikes than before, while only 3 percent said that they expect prices to fall.
