When it comes to post-election talks held between parties to discuss possible coalitions, the now-strongest opposition SDKU-DS will not even sit down at a table with the currently strongest ruling Smer-SD party. SDKU election leader Iveta Radicova ruled it out in an interview for SME daily, published on page 5 on Saturday.

"For four years, Smer has been rejecting any co-operation with the Opposition, SDKU in particular. All (of our) proposals were thrown away. I don't see what's there to discuss," said Radicova.

According to her, there are too many stumbling blocks where any discussion between the right-wing SDKU and the leftist Smer is doomed to crash and burn. "Tell me how could Smer possibly suddenly say 'yes' to our plans to amend the Labour Code, when they claim they won't let it happen?" pondered Radicova, a former labour minister.

She says she has no personal acquaintance with Fico at all. "In times when he was just about to found Smer (in 2000 - ed. note), we met at a conference in Britain, but we didn't get engaged in a conversation ... Sometimes we used to greet each other when meeting in Parliament, but we never had a conversation in person," said Radicova.
