Radicova Calls on Figel to Show 'Manly Attitude'

Skalica, May 22 (TASR) - Re-ignition of Slovakia's economy, getting rid of arrogance in politics, and installing responsible governance bringing positive results for citizens - those are the key priorities of SDKU-DS, currently the strongest opposition party, for the next election term, according to SDKU election leader Iveta Radicova, speaking at a session of her party's central committee in Skalica (Trnava region) on Saturday.

"It's time to change things. I know we can do it, but we have to be unified and strong. Here I'd like to call on Mr. Figel ... it's time to show a manly attitude," said Radicova, alluding to statements made by chairman of Christian Democrat KDH (also in Opposition) that his party does not rule out coalition partnership with the currently ruling Smer-SD after the June 12 general election.

According to Radicova, Slovakia has been suffering over the past four years, with leftist Smer-SD in power (joined by centrist-right LS-HZDS and nationalist SNS). Radicova said that social democrats have been ruling with a leitmotif of 'bread and circuses'.

"The current Government took the country over in good shape in terms of economy, but has made no positive decision aimed at improving the quality of life in Slovakia. Now, today, where are the effects of the reforms that people had to slog through?" asked Radicova, claiming that the Government also failed to handle the situation over an uneasy period marked by the global economic crisis.
