Slovenske Elektrarne to Invest Their Profit into Mochovce Power Plant

Bratislava, May 21 (TASR) - The energy producer Slovenske Elektrarne (SE) made a net profit of €279.9 million in 2009, SE spokesperson Jana Burdova reported on the approved conclusions passed by Thursday's SE General Assembly.

"The proceeds were €2.05 billion in 2009, with EBITDA at €827 million and the company's debt of €187 million," said Burdova.

She added that the General Assembly unanimously passed the Strategic Plan for 2010-14, according to which the company confirmed its decision to invest the gained profit on construction of the third and fourth blocks of the Mochovce nuclear power plant.

"The stockholders of Slovenske Elektrarne - Enel SpA Produzione and the National Property Fund unanimously passed our Strategic Plan. The strong financial result has allowed us to further invest into new capacities ... particularly the construction of the third and fourth blocks of Mochovce," said SE General Director and Board of Directors Chairman Paolo Ruzzini, adding that some 4,000 new jobs will be created in the process.

Burdova said that the General Assembly re-confirmed Paolo Ruzzini as Board of Directors Chairman and member. "After his one-year tenure as Vice-Chairman, Eduard Strycek was appointed the Chairman of Supervisory Board, with Carlo Tamburi becoming the new Vice-Chairman. The change was in accordance with the policy of regular rotation of Supervisory Board Chairmanship and Vice-Chairmanship," said Burdova, adding that the arrangement has been okayed by SE shareholders.

SE represents the biggest energy producer in Slovakia and the second largest energy producer in Central and Eastern Europe. After its privatisation in April 2006, 66 percent of the company is controlled by Enel S.p.A., with the remaining 34 percent owned by the Slovak National Property Fund (under the remit of the Slovak Economy Ministry).
