Bratislava, May 21 (TASR) - With one year to go before the day in which Slovaks will be asked to complete census forms, TASR news agency questioned the Slovak Statistics Office on Friday about innovations in the process.
The 2011 Census will be conducted under a European Parliament and Council of European Community edict in all European Union countries. Zuzana Stukovska of the Office's department of population statistics said the census will not only gather data about demography, but also about people's grounding in education, social and economic composition. The information is designed to aid government in its decision-making processes.
Unlike the last census in 2001, a person will be asked to state their regular whereabouts, which is not necessarily identical with the place of permanent residence. A mathematics quiz is another innovation this year.
For the first time, the public will be able to choose whether to do the census in electronic or paper form, and the paper form will be available in the other major languages spoken in Slovakia (Hungarian, Romanian, Ukrainian and Ruthenian).
With this in mind the Office will launch a website scitanie2011.sk which will provide answers to the basic Census-related questions and titbits about the event.
A Braille version will be on hand for people who are blind or vision-impaired.
