Bratislava, May 20 (TASR) - One-quarter of Slovaks trust banks and financial institutions less than they did before the economic crisis, and around one-fifth think that their savings in them aren't safe anymore, according to a Synovate survey of 1,000 bank clients carried out in 13 countries between October-December 2009.
Unlike people in the rest of Central and Eastern Europe, less than one-tenth of Slovak bank clients feel financially threatened due to the crisis.
When it comes to the loyalty of clients in the banking sector, Slovakia reported the lowest level among the 13 participating countries, with less than one-quarter of clients expressing loyalty.
"The results show that the banking sector is a competitive one in Slovakia. While some banks enjoy quite a high level of client loyalty, others still have to improve their points of contact, maintain or improve their competitive advantage, remove barriers and increase the emotional connection with their clients," said Elena Tothova from Synovate Slovakia.
The results also show that more than a half of Slovaks blame the "greed" of western banks for the economic and financial crisis. They point to the lack of rules and monitoring of the banking sector by governments as the second reason.
