Smer Representatives File Criminal Complaint Over Published Allegations

Bratislava, May 20 (TASR) - Smer-SD vice-chairmen Marek Madaric and Igor Federic and Smer's general manager Jan Richter filed a criminal complaint on Thursday in connection to the recently-published allegations about Smer's financing.

The complaint was filed concerning libel, scaremongering, vilification and the violation of rights, said Madaric.

"We've announced information indicating that a crime was committed when these people deliberately and mendaciously publicly accused the Smer-SD party and its top representatives of bogus financing," said Madaric. "We propose that the Prosecutor-General's Office should interrogate specific persons - SME daily editors Roman Krpelan and Marek Vagovic, and question Bohumil Hanzel as well," he stressed.

According to Madaric, while there was documentary evidence concerning the suspect financing of SDKU-DS, and the party itself admitted that it didn't know who had provided it with a loan, in the case involving Smer the evidence is only based on statements made by certain people, especially Hanzel.

Earlier in the day, chairman of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) Jan Figel and KDH vice-chair Daniel Lipsic announced that they have filed a criminal complaint at the Prosecutor-General's Office related to the same matter, in this case concerning possible crimes committed by members of Smer.
