HZD to Support Vladimir Manka in Banska Bystrica Region VUC Election

Bratislava, November 18 (TASR) - In the second, run-off round of the Higher Territorial Unit (VUC) elections, Movement for Democracy (HZD) will support Vladimir Manka (Smer-SD and LS-HZDS) for the post of Banska Bystrica region governor, HZD chairman Jozef Grapa told TASR on Wednesday.
MEP Manka, who gained 35.4 percent in the first round on November 14, is running against Jozef Mikus (SDKU-DS, KDH, OKS, the Conservative Democrats of Slovakia/KDS), who came in second on 28.8 percent.
"Even before the first round, HZD was convinced that Mr. Manka is one of the best candidates and the party has decided to support him in the second round. I think that mainly his experience in European politics and in drawing EU funds, which Banska Bystrica region is in such desperate need of, predestines him to be the governor," said Grapa, adding that he considers Manka's programme to be very close to that of HZD.
