Velehrad Trustees invite you to the following lecture:

Professor Jan Sokol of the Humanities Faculty of the Charles University has accepted an invitation of the Velehrad Trustees to come to London and speak to the Czech and Slovak community and friends. His lecture “Svoboda a co s ní“ („Freedom and what to do with it“) will take place at Velehrad (22 Ladbroke Square, London W11 3NA) on Saturday 13th of February 2010 at 2.30 p.m. The lecture will be in Czech.

Here are just a few points from prof. Sokol’s impressive CV:
- born 1936
- original profession: mathematician
- Chrater 77 signatory
- number of jobs during 1977-1989: watchmaker, mechanic, computer rogrammer
- after 1989: member of the team working on the ecumenical translation of the Bible
- member of Czechoslovak parliament
- minister of education
- doctorate in Philosophy at the age of 59
- publications and university lecturing in philosophy, religion and phenomenology
- Senior Felow of Harvard University
- Candidate in 2003 Czech presidential elections (beaten by Vaclav Klaus)
