Members and guests are invited to attend the following event organised with the kind cooperation of the School of Slavonic and East European Studies of University College, London. GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION? THE CZECH AND SLOVAK ELECTIONS OF 2010 AND THEIR AFTERMATH Speakers: Dr Tim Haughton (University of Birmingham), Dr Sean Hanley (UCL) and Dr Karen Henderson (University of Leicester) General elections in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in May and June this year both brought surprise electoral setbacks for the centre-left and the formation of two new centre-right governments. Voters also turned away from established parties, producing unexpected political exits for some as well as the emergence of new players on the political scene in both countries. At this roundtable event, leading specialists on Czech and Slovak politics will discuss the causes and consequences of the election results. The new, purpose-built home of the School of Slavonic Studies in Taviton Street is one block east of the main building of University College. It is easily reached on foot from the following Underground stations: Euston (Northern Line), Euston Square (Metropolitan and Circle Lines), Warren Street (Victoria and Northern Lines), and Russell Square (Piccadilly Line). Refreshments will be served after the event.
